The PE Curriculum

At Rockwell Green we use the Real PE as the foundation for our approach for PE. This focuses on developing the fundamental skills of AGILITY, BALANCE and CO-ORDINATION which can then be applied to a variety of different sporting contexts and traditional sports such as football, rugby, netball, tennis and athletics. In addition it focuses on the development of the whole child through the use of 6 key cog drivers which build children's social skills of communication, collaboration and healthy competition. We are passionate about exercise and sport and recognise the importance it plays in the health and wellbeing of children.

PE is delivered by a combination of teaching staff and sports coach (Mr Parsons) who teaches on Mondays and Wednesdays. Each class also receives an additional morning of PE with Mr Parsons each half-term to focus on key skills and intra competitions.

Playleaders are trained and coached by Mr Parsons, who then support games and activities on the KS1 and KS2 playgrounds at break and lunchtimes.

After School Clubs

We offer a range of sporting activities, both before and after school, to further develop the children's enjoyment and opportunity to participate in sport. These include rugby, football, multi-skills, and a dance club as well as Change 4 Life sessions. We are keen to get involved in local competitions and are part of the SASP buy-in which delivers tournaments and festivals to different year groups throughout the year (Covid permitting).

Sports Premium Grant

The government provides schools with a PE Grant to support and develop the PE curriculum. A school of our size receives £16,000 plus £10 per student.
