EYFS
Intent
At Rockwell Green C of E Primary School we focus on creating an Early Years where children are safe and secure. Learning is at the centre of everything that we do and we are ambitious for all learners in all aspects of learning whatever their prior knowledge and background. We want children to have experiences and opportunities they may not have outside of school so they develop knowledge and skills, understand concepts as well as have a self-belief to go on and succeed in life.
We work tirelessly at creating an ambitious, exciting, and engaging curriculum and learning environment. We want children’s imagination to be sparked and their learning to have meaning and purpose. We endeavour to make it a place where the children can explore, investigate and learn through first-hand experiences. We also want to develop confidence where children are challenged to develop their independence.
Vocabulary development and Early Reading are given the highest priority and there is a sharp focus on ensuring that children can communicate effectively and that they have a secure knowledge of phonics. This will then give them the foundations for future learning, especially in preparation for them to become confident and fluent readers.
Our intent is clearly shown by the ambitious ‘Goals’ we have in both Rockets and Badgers linked to the seven areas of learning and development.
Our Goals for children by the time they leave Rockets
Our Goals for Badgers that go beyond the Early Learning Goals (the expectation for children at the end of Reception)

Rockets
Our Rockets Pre-School provides for children from 2-4 years old and we are blessed both by our indoor and outdoor space.

We also have an experienced staff who care passionately about the children and strive to give them the best start possible. In Rockets we follow a two year rolling programme of topics as you will see below:
Aut 1 | Aut 2 | Spr 1 | Spr 2 | Sum 1 | Sum 2 | |
Year A | Ourselves and all about me | Toys and Teddy Bears | Super Heroes | Growing and the Environment | On the Farm | Transport, travel and holidays |
Year B | Ourselves and all about me | Traditional Tales (Castles, knights, dragons, princesses, etc | People who help us | Growing and Food | At the Zoo | The Seaside |
In addition to this, festivals and events are celebrated throughout each year including: Christmas, Easter, Diwali, Remembrance, Chinese New Year, St George’s Day, etc. Furthermore, weather, seasons and the changes these bring will be taught throughout the year.
Badgers
Our Reception class again benefits from both an indoor and outdoor space.

Our skilled and nurturing staff enable the children to make a successful start into school and we work closely with parent/carers, Rockets and other settings to support this. Children having a strong foundation enables them to then go from strength to strength as they go through the school. In Badgers the children learn about the following topics:
Autumn 1 | Autumn 2 | Spring 1 | Spring 2 | Summer 1 | Summer 2 |
Ourselves, My Family and My School English Woodland animals | Traditional Tales and Festivals and Toys | Polar Regions | Dinosaurs | Minibeasts | Pirates and Under the Sea |
