We are fortunate enough to have been selected to work in collaboration with Bournville Academy on a project to help our disadvantaged pupils to have better outcomes. This project, entitled 'Challenge the Gap' will run until July 2019 and involved Tawny Owl class.
What is Challenge the Gap?
Challenge the Gap is a whole school improvement programme, run by Challenge partners, that is breaking the link between poverty and poor outcomes. It is designed and delivered nationally by expert practitioners with a track record of improving outcomes for disadvantaged pupils, Challenge the Gap builds in-school expertise in collaboration with other schools to have a lasting, transformational impact for all pupils, driven from within.
What is our focus?
We are aiming to target children who may be at risk of under achieving in writing.
How will we achieve this?
Through the promotion of Di Pardoe's 'Towards Successful Learning' model. In this, children are encouraged to become self reflecting and increasingly resilient learners; learning is scaffolded and children are supported, rather than purely teacher led. In addition to this, a specific Class Dojo award has been created for resilience so that children can see the value of it.
It is intended that we will be able to narrow the attainment gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged children, thus improving their life chances.
